SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Meris Walsh (Easton, Md./Univ. of Maryland) has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Lacrosse Player of the Week, the league announced today. It was the Aztecs' first weekly award in program history.
Walsh scored a program single-game record seven goals in SDSU's 11-10 win over Saint Mary's on Friday. The seven goals tied the most by a MPSF player since 2009.
Walsh had five goals in the first half, including four straight over a span of 6 minutes, 19 seconds that gave San Diego State its biggest lead of the game at 6-3. Walsh also had a game-high 12 shots and scored on two of her five free position opportunities.
On the season, Walsh leads the Aztecs in goals (13), points (13), shots (31) and free-position goals (4).
Walsh and SDSU (2-2) plays host to Detroit for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
