Arizona Wildcat Day 2 Results

San Diego State junior golfer Christine Wong fired a second-round 1-under 71 to help the Aztecs remain in 10th place Monday at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the par-72, 6,321-yard Golf Club at Vistoso. SDSU took four strokes off its first-round total, carding an 18-over 306 to move to 40-over 616 with 18 holes left to play in its first tournament of 2012.

Wong (Richmond, B.C.) was one of two Aztec upperclassmen to make sizeable jumps up the individual leaderboard. Her 71 featured eight pars, six birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey to move her from a tie for 25th place into a tie for 11th with a 36-hole total of 2-over 146. Wong's 71 was one of nine sub-par rounds in the 79-golfer field on day two.

SDSU senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) made the team's biggest improvement, going from 49th into a tie for 23rd with a 72. Enarsson, who shot a 79 in the first 18 holes, started the day with two birdies over her first five holes and would later notch a third on the par-4 first hole. She then carded seven pars and one bogey to complete the round at even par.

Aztec sophomore Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who is competing as an individual, matched her career low for the second day in a row with a 77, highlighted by 12 pars and a birdie on the 14th. Despite duplicating her score, Schneider dropped just slightly into a tie for 42nd place at 10-over 154.

Junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) had an up and down day on the course, recording four birdies, but also three double bogeys and a triple bogey to move her from 25th into 47th at 12-over 156. Classmate Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) and freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejas, Calif.) both posted second-round 82s to find themselves in 64th and 69th place respectively.

Arizona has taken full advantage of playing at home, increasing its day-one lead to 13 strokes over top-ranked UCLA with a 17-under 559. Individually, Wildcat Manon Gidali shaved one stroke off her first-round score, firing a 6-under 66 to lead by six over teammate Margarita Ramos with an 11-under 133.

San Diego State will be paired with North Texas, Washington State and Portland State for Tuesday's final round starting at 8 a.m. MT from the 10 through 14th holes. Live results are available on golfstat.com.
