CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -
Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) tossed a complete game shutout to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 6-0 win over New Mexico State Friday night at the Cathedral City Classic. The Aztecs improved to 8-6 with the win, while the Aggies dropped to 10-3.
Arbino (2-2) gave up just five hits, all singles, and a three walks over seven innings. She struck out six and lowered her season ERA to 1.47 against a team that came into the weekend with a .372 average and 17 home runs in 11 games.
SDSU scored two runs each in the bottom of the third, fifth and sixth inning.
Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) drove in both runs in the third on a single down the right field line.
In the fifth, redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) laced a single down the left field line that scored another two runs.
Senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) added to the San Diego State lead in the sixth when her double scored the final two runs of the game.
Seven different Aztecs had one hit apiece, while sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) drew a pinch-hit walk.
SDSU continues its play in the Cathedral City Classic Saturday with a game against Iowa State at 10 a.m. PT.
