ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sophomore Allison Reaser won the pentathlon for the second consecutive year to lead the San Diego State track and field team on the first day of the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships Thursday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Reaser beat 12 others in the event, totaling 3,863 points. Boise State's Alexi Morton was the runner-up with 3,726 points, while Aztec senior Julianne Alarcio took sixth with a personal record (PR) 3,284 points (seventh all-time at SDSU) and freshman Sarah Haydock was 13th with 2,801.

The Reaser win and Alarcio sixth-place finish gave San Diego State 13 points in the event, good enough for first of eight after one day of the championships. Boise State (8 points), New Mexico (6), Colorado State (5) and Air Force (4) round out the top five.

Reaser won two of the five competitions and placed second in another en route to the 137-point victory. Reaser, who also is the reigning MW outdoor heptathlon champion, began her day by winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.39 seconds. The time was a 0.10-second PR and tied for the third-fastest time (Marisa Robinson, 2000) in program history. Only Miesha McKelvy (8.24 in 1999) and Felicia Stone (8.29 in 2000) have gone faster at San Diego State. Alarcio finished ninth (9.61) and Haydock was 12th (10.00).

In the high jump, Reaser cleared a season-best 5 feet, 2 ½ inches to tie for fourth with New Mexico's Samantha Bowe. Alarcio set a PR with a mark of 5-01.25 to tie for seventh and Haydock was 12th (4-11.00).

Reaser stretched her lead in the shot put with a toss of 39-00.25. The mark was a PR and more than two feet ahead of runner-up Rita Rudell of UNLV (36-11.50). Alarcio also PR'd to tie for seventh (32-02.75), while Haydock was 13th (28-04.50).

Alarcio set a personal best in the long jump for the second consecutive meet to win the event in 18-10.50, the 10th-best mark in school history. Reaser, who long jumped 19-08.00 earlier this season, was third today in 18-07.00. Haydock was 12th in 15-09.50.

Reaser ended her winning day with a second-place showing in the 800 in 2:29.66, which was almost three seconds faster than last year's PR of 2:32.14. Haydock took 10th in 2:44.79 and Alarcio set an indoor PR of 2:45.07 for 11th.

The Aztecs continue their second day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships on Friday with their first event of the day (long jump) kicking off at 1 p.m. MT.
