OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team finds itself in second place after the first day of the Mountain West Championships being contested in Oklahoma City this week. The Aztecs are just behind first-year conference member Boise State, which joined the league after winning the Western Athletic Conference title last year.

After the first three events of the meet, SDSU finds itself with 101 points, seven behind Boise State with 108. New Mexico is a close third with 99 points followed by UNLV (78), Wyoming (76), Colorado State (64), TCU (55) and Air Force (46).

In the opening race, the San Diego State foursome of Chelsea Bailey, Katelyn Weddle, Gemma Johnson and Stephanie Koch captured second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.39. That mark established a new school record, eclipsing the old Aztec best by exactly one second.

The day's other swimming event, the 800 free relay, saw the SDSU quartet of Kelly Marquenie, Meghan Zimmer, Melanie Garibaldi and Jessica Crider take third in 7:17.09, the third-fastest time in school history.

The day's final competition came in the 1-meter diving where Aztec senior Kristen Meier finished second with a score of 274.40. Fellow divers Anna Steiner and Rafaella Suarez placed eighth and 10th respectively.

Action on Thursday (Feb. 23) gets underway at 11:00 a.m. (CT) with prelims in the 500 free, 200 individual medley, 50 free and 3-meter diving. The finals of those four events along with the 400 medley relay will commence at 6:00 p.m. that evening.
