BOULDER CITY, Nev. - San Diego State senior women's golfer Malin Enarsson finished fifth at the UNLV Spring Invitational Tuesday, posting a 6-over 222, to help the Aztecs end up in third place out of 11 teams. SDSU took three strokes off its second round total to finish the 54-hole event at 41-over 905, edging fellow conference member New Mexico by four strokes at the par-72, 6,272-yard Cascata Golf Club.
Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) completed the tournament with a 75, including three birdies, to post her first top-10 finish of the season. Aztec junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) matched the team's low round of the tournament with her 1-under 71, to vault her from 29th all the way into a tie for 16th with a 10-over 226. Classmate Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) went the opposite way on the individual leaderboard, dropping from 20th into 12th at 11-over 227.
Junior Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) posted her best 54-hole score of the season by a whopping 10 strokes, tying for 24th with a 230. Freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.), meanwhile, never got going in the final 18 holes, as she had nine bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey against only seven pars to card an 86 and finish the tournament in a tie for 52nd with a 249.
Seventeenth-ranked Arizona cruised to the team title by 19 strokes over host and second place UNLV with an 8-over 872. The Wildcats also claimed medalist honors with Isabelle Boineau and Manon Gidali both tying for first place at 2-over 218.
San Diego State will be back in action March 5-6, when it travels to the Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif.
