The San Diego State lacrosse team outscored visiting Cincinnati 9-4 in the second half to claim the program's first-ever victory 14-9 on Friday evening in the inaugural home contest at Aztec Lacrosse Field. With the win, the Aztecs moved to 1-1 on the year, while the Bearcats dropped to 0-1.

"The fans were incredible and our team came out very focused and excited and they used that energy to get us the win," said Kylee White, who earned her first victory as a head coach. "They played with heart and they played together. We definitely learned from last weekend's loss to take care of the ball, keep possession and play until the end. Winning our first home game was one of our first goals and it's good to cross that one off and move forward."

SDSU freshman Bailey Ewing (Reisterstown, Md.) led the way with a team-best five points, including four goals and one assist. Classmate Sophie Koubek (Rockville, Md.) also had four goals on just five shots, while sophomore Meris Walsh (Easton, Md.) found the back of the net twice in the second half. Aztec goalkeeper Sammy Slattery (Carlsbad, Calif.), meanwhile, made seven saves.

Cincinnati notched the first two goals of the night, including the first just under four minutes into the contest. Freshman Jackie Mills (Encinitas, Calif.) finally got the Aztecs on the board on an unassisted goal at the 15:05 mark. After the Bearcats went up 3-1, San Diego State reeled off three-straight goals with two by Koubek and one by Ewing to jump ahead for the first time at 4-3.

The visitors regained the lead at 5-4, but the Aztecs knotted the score at five at the break when Mills found Ewing, who scored with just 12 seconds remaining. After Cincinnati went back ahead 6-5 with the first goal of the second half, SDSU scored six unanswered goals over a period of just over six and a half minutes and went on to claim the 14-9 victory.

The Bearcats were led by Katie Kiriazoglou's three goals and two assists, while Megan Bell also netted a pair in the loss.

San Diego State will be in action again on Sunday when it takes on UC Davis in its first-ever MPSF game at Aztec Lacrosse Field beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
