TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 54 San Diego State women's tennis team fell at No. 33 Arizona, 5-2, Saturday morning in Tucson. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 2-3 on the season.
The Aztecs opened the morning by dropping the doubles point. Arizona claimed wins at No. 2 and the top position to take the point before Laura Antonana Irirate and Emma Cioffi defeated Kim Stubbe and Susan McRann, 8-6 at No. 3.
The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead when Lacey Smyth downed Julia Wais, 6-1, 6-2, at the top of the singles ladder. Sarah Landsman made it 3-0 Arizona with her 6-4, 6-0 decision over Antonana Iriarte at No. 2.
Trailing by three, San Diego State managed to cut its deficit when Kristin Buth was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Laura Oldham. Unfortunately for the Aztecs, they could not stop Arizona's Natasha Marks from earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emma Cioffi at No. 3 to seal the team win.
The Wildcats tacked on another point with a victory at No. 4 before SDSU's Roxanne Ellison downed McRann, 7-6, 0-6, 10-8, to round out the scoring.
The Aztecs return to action on Monday when they play host to Hawai'i at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m. PT.
