TEMPE, Ariz. -

Redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) had two of San Diego State's six home runs on the day to lead the Aztec softball team to a sweep over Portland State and Utah Friday at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. SDSU (2-1) downed the Vikings (0-1), 7-3, in the opener, before knocking off the Utes (0-1), 14-2, in the nightcap.

Junior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.), sophomores Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.), and freshman Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) also homered in the doubleheader for San Diego State, which now has seven in three games this season.

Jackson went a combined 5-for-8 with her first two home runs of her career and four RBIs over the two games, while Miles was 5-for-7 with a homer, five runs, four RBIs and two walks.

In the opener, the Aztecs jumped out with three runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back en route to the 7-3 win over PSU. Miles went 2-for-2 with a home run, double, three runs, two walks and an RBI, while Klopp was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. It was the 17th career home run for the sophomore, who already tied four-year players Megan McDonald (2005-08) and Erryn Gutjahr (1996-99) for the all-time program record.

Jackson and senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) (2-for-2) also had two hits apiece for SDSU, while sophomore Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) had a two-run double and scored a run.

The offense was plenty for two-time all-Mountain West pitcher Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.). Making her first start of the season, the senior allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits over seven innings. She struck out six without issuing a walk.

In the nightcap, it was Utah who took the lead first when Jackie Sweet scored on a San Diego State error in the bottom of the third inning.

The Aztecs, however, responded, outscoring the Utes, 14-1, over the final three innings to pick up their second straight win. Jackson (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs, R, BB), Kristin May (3-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2 R) and Miles (3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBIs, 2 R) each had three hits to pace the offense, which outhit Utah, 16-9, for the game.

Junior UC Santa Barbara transfer Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) (3 RBIs, 2 R) and senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) (2 RBIs) added two hits apiece. Connors had her first career hit and home run and freshman Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had her first hit and scored a run, while Reifschneider singled and scored twice.

Junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) went the distance in the circle for SDSU, giving up two runs (one earned) on nine hits. She struck out six without yielding a walk to improve to 1-1 on the year.

San Diego State continues its play in the Kajikawa Classic on Saturday with games against No. 14/9 Tennessee (2 p.m. MT) and rv/No. 23 Georgia Tech (7 p.m. MT).
