NAMPA, Idaho - Senior Whitney Ashley set two school records to lead the San Diego State track and field team Saturday at the Bronco Invitational in Nampa, Idaho.

Ashley, who earned All-America honors last outdoor season in the shot put, broke her own record in both the shot put and the weight throw. Ashley won the shot put with a toss of 53 feet, 2 ¼ inches and took second in the weight throw (61-07.00).

A pair of redshirt freshmen throwers also shined for the Aztecs. Jasmine Burrell took fourth in the shot put (46-08.00) and the weight throw (59-11.25). The shot put was the third-best mark in school history, while the weight throw was No. 2 all-time at SDSU. Brittany Gonter made her San Diego State debut with an eighth-place finish in the shot put (43-01.50, No. 6 all-time).

Senior Ellie Fanaika capped the big day for the Aztec throwers with a sixth-place showing in the weight throw. Her toss of 56-03.75 was the fourth-best mark in school history.

Sophomore Shanieka Thomas led the SDSU jumpers, taking second (and first among collegiate competitors) in the triple jump (43-03.25) and fourth in the long jump (19-09.75). Her triple jump was the third-best mark in program history and is top mark in the nation (according to www.TFRRS.org), while her long jump was No. 3 all-time at San Diego State.

Carrington Mahr, a sophomore transfer from UC Davis, made her Aztec debut a good one, tying for first in the high jump in 5-05.00. It also tied her for the seventh-best mark in school history.

Junior Alex Evans, meanwhile, finished seventh in the triple jump in 38-02.75.

On the track, sophomore Allison Reaser picked up where she left off last year, taking fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.59 seconds. It was just 0.10 seconds off the personal-best time for Reaser, who last year won the pentathlon at the Mountain West indoor championships, and the heptathlon at the MW outdoor championships and the USATF junior national championships. Evans finished ninth in the race in 8.98 seconds.

Other top-10 finishes on the day for SDSU were sophomore Maderia Toatley and freshman Maya Carter. Toatley was eighth in the 60 meters (7.92), while Carter was ninth in the 400 (1:00.11).

San Diego State heads to the Air Force Team Challenge on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
