FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team recorded a pair of wins on Saturday in a double dual meet at the Fresno State Aquatic Center. The Aztecs notched victories over the host Bulldogs (174.50-114.50) and Cal State Bakersfield (189-90) to improve to 15-0 in dual meet competition this season.

Along the way SDSU captured 14 of 16 events including 10 individual races, both relays and the diving competitions. Eight different swimmers won races for San Diego State as the Aztecs set 11 pool records during the meet.

Junior Katelyn Weddle was a double winner for SDSU as she won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:04.25 and 2:18.20 respectively. Both of those times were pool records. Weddle was also a member of the 200 medley relay foursome along with Leona Jennings, Loreen Whitfield and Stephanie Koch that opened the meet with a pool record first-place mark of 1:46.13.

Also recording two wins for the Aztecs was Gemma Johnson. The junior from Australia won the 100 fly in 56.22 and the 200 fly in 2:08.77. Her mark in the former event was a new FSU Aquatic Aquaplex record.

A quartet of other SDSU swimmers established pool records with wins as well including Melanie Garibaldi in the 100 free (10:19.81), Kelly Marquenie in the 200 free (1:51.88), Mikaela Macklin in the 200 back (2:05.50) and Meghan Zimmer in the 500 free (5:02.80).

The Aztecs' other two individual swimming event winners were Chelsea Bailey in the 100 backstroke (58.27) and Loreen Whitfield in the 200 individual medley (2:09.60).

In the diving, Kristen Meier turned in the top scores on both boards and set a pair of pool records in the process. She scored 283.65 on the 1-meter and later recorded a 333.30 on the 3-meter springboard. Sophomore Anna Steiner's mark of 260.95 in the 1-meter event goes into the SDSU record list as the eighth-best score ever.

San Diego State concluded the meet with a win the 400 free relay as Bailey, Koch, Jennings and Macklin won with a pool-record time of 3:29.50.

The Aztecs will conclude their regular season in two weeks when they host the University of San Diego on Saturday, Jan. 28, at noon at the Aztec Aquaplex. That same weekend (Jan. 27-28), the SDSU divers will be in Colorado Springs to compete in the Air Force Diving Invitational.
