COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A total of 30 San Diego State student-athletes from four different sports have been named to the Mountain West Conference all-academic team for the 2010 fall semester, the league office announced Thursday.
The Aztec football team had the largest amount of SDSU honorees with 14 selections, highlighted by D.J. Shields (Bonita, Calif.), who earned a 3.81 grade point average in civil engineering during the fall semester. The highest gpa among the 30 student-athletes honored was a 3.95 in nursing by women's soccer player Maria Fraticelli.
In addition, the women's cross country squad had six of its runners honored, while volleyball and women's soccer each had five selections.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at their school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor to their team.
