SDSU Game Notes vs. Penn

The Aztec women's basketball team (7-4) will try to claim its third San Diego Surf `N Slam title in the last four years on Friday, when it plays host to Penn (7-2) for a 2 p.m. PT tip-off at Viejas Arena. SDSU is two days removed from a 57-29 win over UNCG in the tournament's opening contest and faces a Quaker squad which also owns a current three-game win streak. The Aztecs have come out on top in seven of their last eight Surf `N Slam games and have advanced to the championship game four consecutive years, winning in 2008 over then No. 4 Texas and in 2009 vs. Auburn.

-SDSU Head Coach Beth Burns: Burns (Ohio Wesleyan, 1979) is in the seventh year of her second stint as head coach at San Diego State. She led the Aztecs for eight seasons from 1989 to 1997, before returning in 2005. She has an overall head coaching record of 331-241 in 20 seasons, while she is 250-176 in her 15 campaigns at SDSU.

-Penn Head Coach Mike McLaughlin: McLaughlin is in his 17th season as a head coach and third with the Quakers. He boasts a school record of 26-47 and an overall head coaching mark of 433-108.

-Series History: The Aztecs will take on their second consecutive first-time opponent this week, when they face Penn. SDSU is 2-1 all-time vs. Ivy League members with the most recent outing coming at the 2006 Surf `N Slam against Brown.
