NEW ORLEANS - San Diego State sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman has been named an Associated Press third-team All-American. The La Habra, Calif., native is the first Aztec since Larry Ned in 2001 (second team) to earn AP All-America honors.
This season, Hillman has set a conference record with 1,656 rushing yards on 287 carries to go along with 19 touchdowns. He ranks third nationally in rushing yards per game (138.0), 11th in all-purpose yards per game (156.4) and 12th in points per game (12.00). Hillman's 1,656 rushing yards are the second most in school history, eclipsing each of NFL and SDSU Hall-of-Fame member Marshall Faulk's three seasons, and trail only George Jones' 1,842 set during the 1995 campaign.
Hillman has nine, 100-yard rushing games and six, 150-yard contests, both which have tied a school record. Additionally, his 19 rushing touchdowns are the fourth-most in a season in school history.
For his career, Hillman ranks third all-time at San Diego State with 3,188 rushing yards. He has 15, 100-yard rushing games (in 25 career games) and 12, 150-yard contests, both which rank second in program history. He's also second in rushing touchdowns (36) and total touchdowns (38), and sixth in scoring (228 points).
Among the NCAA career active leaders, Hillman is first in carries per game (22.0), second in rushing yards per game (127.5), fourth in points per game (9.1) and 15th in rushing yards per carry (5.81).
For the first time in their 43-year Division I history, the Aztecs are playing in a bowl game for the second consecutive season on Dec. 17 when they face Louisiana-Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
