SAN DIEGO - San Diego State middle blocker Andrea Hannasch has received honorable mention All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). She becomes the first Aztec to be named an All-American since 1988.
Hannasch, who was a 2011 all-Mountain West selection for the second straight year an All-West Region first team honoree, finished the season ranked among the top 10 in the conference in four categories. The junior from New Braunfels, Texas (New Braunfels HS), was third in blocks (1.17 per set), sixth in points (3.80 per set), eighth in kills (2.94 per set) and ninth in hitting percentage (.307).
In addition to her all-conference accolade, Hannasch also earned MWC Player of the week honors after the first weekend of the 2011 season. She set her single-match career highs this past season in hitting percentage (.765 vs. Boise State, Oct. 15), kills (20 at TCU, Oct. 6) and points (30 at TCU, Oct. 6).
Hannasch led San Diego State (18-10 overall) to a 10-4 league record and second-place in the final conference standings, its best finish since the 2002 campaign when they also captured second. The team's 18 overall wins were the Aztecs' most since 2003 when they recorded the same number of victories finishing with an 18-14 ledger.
