SAN DIEGO -
SEASON-BEST TIMES | NCAA WEST REGIONALS MEET CENTRAL
The San Diego State cross country team continues its championships season Saturday at the 2011 NCAA West Regionals in Palo Alto, Calif. The 6,000-meter race, which will be hosted by national power Stanford, is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. PT at the Stanford Golf Course.
The Aztecs will look to improve on last year's 28th-place finish in Springfield, Ore. Marianne Hogan led SDSU last year with an 80th-place showing in 21 minutes, 36.77 seconds. Josefine Koskinen was the only other San Diego State runner who competed last year (180th, 23:03.56) who is on this year's team.
The Aztecs are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Mountain West Championships on Oct. 29 at Fort Collins, Colo., where they battled the cold, snowy ground and elevation. Hogan led SDSU for the 11th consecutive race with a 25th-place showing in 22:28.6.
Hogan, who has twice been named the MW Athlete of the Week this year and four times in her career, has a first, second and third-place finish over her five races. If you take away the unattached runners, she has two firsts and a runner-up showing against collegiate competition.
Koskinen, meanwhile, has been San Diego State's No. 2 runner in all five races, highlighted by a ninth-place finish at UCSD on Oct. 8. Taylor Johnson, a transfer from Arkansas, has been third on the team in all five races.
Other runners competing in the 6K race on Saturday for the Aztecs include Hannah Carman, Niki Novak, Amanda Okun, Amy Reaser and Seanie Rigney.
