Nov. 4, 2011
SAN DIEGO - Saturday afternoon's volleyball match against TCU, scheduled for a noon start on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym, has been designated Senior Day as the Aztecs will honor a trio of fourth-year players who are completing their final season of collegiate eligibility in 2011. That threesome includes setter Amber Davidson along with outside hitters Paije Pearson and Kyley Sexton.
As part of the day's festivities, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive free Aztec t-shirts. In addition, all fans will be entered to win one of four Visa gift cards valued up to $200.
Both Pearson (Chandler HS; Chandler, Ariz.) and Sexton (West Salem HS; Salem, Ore.) have nee with the SDSU volleyball program the past for season while Davidson (San Diego Mesa JC; Sparks, Nev.) joined the Aztecs for the 2010 campaign. All three have contributed to the success of the San Diego State volleyball squad over the past few seasons.
The Aztecs enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 14-8 and 7-4 in the Mountain West. They trail second-place TCU (21-4, 8-3 MW) by a single game as both teams look to position themselves for seeding positions at the conference tournament in two weeks. SDSU defeated the Horned Frogs in a tight five-set match in Fort Worth early October.
Saturday's contest is the team's final Mountain West match of the 2011 campaign. The Aztecs will return to Aztec Court following the league tournament to host the first Aztec Turkey Time Tournament on Nov. 25-26. The tournament field includes Pittsburgh and UC Santa Barbara in addition to the Aztecs and TCU.
