Washington's Jacob Hustedt converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute to give the host Huskies (6-3-2, 1-2 Pac-12) a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the No. 18 San Diego State men's soccer team Sunday afternoon in Seattle. The Aztecs (8-2-2, 3-1 Pac-12) saw their eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end with the loss.

SDSU had rallied from a 1-0 deficit with back-to-back goals by senior Daniel Steres (Calabasas, Calif.) and redshirt sophomore Jordan Ongaro (Edmonton, Alberta) in the 67th and 78th minute, respectively, before UW tied it up on a Casey McCool goal in the 80th minute.

At the 86:34 mark, a San Diego State player was whistled for a foul inside the box. Hustedt then finished the penalty kick into the back of the net for the game-winner.

The Aztecs lost for the first time since Sept. 4 after going 7-0-1 over their previous eight matches.

SDSU had many quality chances against Washington, which came into the weekend with the eighth-lowest goals against average in the country (0.52). Sophomore Miles Byass (Highland, Calif.) had San Diego State's first good chance in the 32nd minute, when he broke through the defense and flicked a shot that was tipped by the Husky goalkeeper Spencer Richey.

In the 62nd minute, Aztec junior Jose Altamirano (San Diego/Southwest HS) bent a free kick over the UW wall toward the upper-left corner, but Richey got to the side to knock it down.

Minutes later, sophomore Kody Duff (Roseville, Calif.) was fouled in the box, which allowed Steres to calmly tuck the penalty kick into the back of the goal, his fourth of the season.

In the 69th minute, Duff just missed the left post from 12 yards out.

San Diego State took a 2-1 lead at the 77:08 mark on a play set up by redshirt senior Pedro Adan (San Diego/Preuss HS). Adan found Ongaro, who ripped a shot past Richey for his fifth tally of the season.

It remained that way until McCool headed a ball into the net on a scramble in front of the goalmouth at the 79:40 mark and Hustedt's game-winning penalty kick at the 86:34 mark.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on Brent Richards' seventh goal of the season. Michael Harris took a flip throw-in that appeared to go into the back of the net. Instead, Richards was ruled to have made contact with it and knock it in.

Aztec redshirt sophomore Blake Hylen (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) had another solid game with one of the goals allowed being a penalty kick and another on a throw-in/finish from close range. Hylen (7-2-2) tied his career high with seven saves and challenged the UW attack throughout.

Byass had three shots to pace the SDSU offense, while Duff and Ongaro came off the bench to contribute two shots apiece.

San Diego State will travel to Los Angeles at 5 p.m. PT Sunday to take on UCLA. It will be a battle between the two-top teams in the Pac-12. The Aztecs are 3-1 in league play, while the Bruins (9-3-1) are the only undefeated team left at 4-0.

MAN OF THE MATCH: The bench collectively earned Men of the Match honors. Sophomore Kody Duff (Roseville, Calif.) came into the game in the second half and settled the midfield by winning balls and connecting on passes. He created a PK and had an excellent chance from 12 yards out. Redshirt sophomore Robbie Freise (Canyon Country, Calif.) also came in and helped solidify the defensive shape, shutting down Washington's right side while creating a better rhythm of possession out of the back as SDSU built its attacks. Freise sprung many balls behind the Husky backline to forwards Jordan Ongaro (Edmonton, Alberta) and Miles Byass (Highland, Calif.). Ongaro came in and disrupted the UW defense throughout. He constantly got behind the line, held the ball for the Aztecs' midfielders to join the attack, set up chances for others and had two great opportunities before his goal - one, a bouncing ball with just Ongaro and the keeper and two, dead on from 12 yards.
