SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's tennis player Javier Pulgar advanced to the qualifying draw of the men's ITA All-American Championships. Qualifying is scheduled for Oct. 3-5 in Tulsa, Okla.
Pulgar opened play on Sunday morning with a 6-4, 7-6 (7) victory against Sudanwa Sitaram of Texas to clinch a spot in the qualifying draw. In the final round of the pre-qualifying draw, however, the Madrid, Spain native dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Texas A&M's Jeremy Efferding.
Pulgar will now face off against Marc Bruche of Iowa in the first round of qualifying, which starts today.
Hunter Nicholas, meanwhile, was eliminated from singles play with a 6-2, 7-6(8) loss to Zach White of Mississippi State.
Pulgar and Nicholas earned a spot in doubles and will open the qualifying draw against the Mississippi State duo of George Coupland-Zach White on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
