No. 20 SDSU to Host Oregon State, No. 19 Washington This Weekend
The San Diego State men's soccer team begins its second half of Pac-12 Conference play this weekend when it welcomes Oregon State and Washington to SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs (9-3-2, 3-2 Pac-12), who are ranked 20th by College Soccer News, will meet the Beavers (5-8-2, 3-3-1 Pac-12) at 3 p.m. PT Friday and the Huskies (10-3-2, 5-2 Pac-12) at 1 p.m. PT Sunday. OSU has won two straight matches, while UW has won five consecutive games and is ranked as high as No. 19 by Soccer America.

Noting the Aztecs
* San Diego State is off to a 9-3-2 (.714) start, its best 14-game start to a season since 2005, when the Aztecs began the campaign with a 8-1-5 mark (.750) ... It is the second-best start by an SDSU team in 20 years ... The .692 winning percentage is tied for the 23rd-best record in the country.

* San Diego State is 3-2 in the Pac-12 Conference ... It is the Aztecs' best five-match conference start since 2007, when they also started 3-2 ... No other SDSU team has started better over the first five Pac-12 games (2006 team also started 3-2) ... San Diego State has nine points after five league matches, which trails UCLA (15 points), Washington (15) and Oregon State (10) ... UW and OSU, however, have played seven matches, while the Aztecs have played just five ... Percentage wise SDSU is third at .600 behind the Bruins (1.000) and the Huskies (.714).

* Among the national leaders, SDSU is tied for 22nd in goals per game (1.93) and tied for 23rd in winning percentage (.714).

* San Diego State is outscoring the opposition, 27-15 ... The +12 scoring margin is the best in the league (Washington is second at +11).

* The Aztecs are outshooting their opponents, 232-135, through 14 games, including a 96-63 advantage on net ... SDSU leads the Pac-12 in goals per game (1.93), and is second in points per game (5.93), assists per game (2.07), shots per game (16.57), goals against average (1.03) and shutouts (4, tied) ... In the individual rankings, redshirt sophomore Blake Hylen (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) is second in goals against average (1.05), tied for third in shutouts (3) and fourth in saves per game (3.46), sophomore Miles Byass (Highland, Calif.) is third in points per game (1.07) and shots per game (3.57), tied for fourth in goals per game (0.36) and fifth in assists per game (0.36), and redshirt sophomore Jordan Ongaro (Edmonton, Alberta) is tied for fifth in goals per game (0.36).

* Hylen had a streak of 356 minutes, 24 seconds played without allowing a goal snapped on Oct. 2 in a 2-1 win over California.

* Junior Jose Altamirano (San Diego/Southwest HS) and sophomore Casey Meuser (Granite Bay, Calif.) have each started 33 consecutive games, the longest active streaks on the team. Steres has the next longest at 25.

Scouting the Beavers
Oregon State takes its two-game winning streak into Friday's game with the Aztecs. The Beavers are 5-8-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Pac-12 play after knocking off California, 2-1, and Stanford, 1-0, last week in Corvallis, Ore. The victories gave OSU its first sweep of the Bay Area schools in a single weekend since Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, 2003. Against nationally ranked teams this year, Oregon State is 1-3 (SDSU is ranked 20th by College Soccer News).

Emery Welshman leads the Beavers in scoring with 13 points on three goals and seven assists. He leads the league in assists per game (0.47), and is also ranked second in shots per game (3.60) and fifth in points per game (0.87). Roberto Farfan has 10 points on four goals and two assists, while Alex Eckerson has added eight points on four goals. Steve Spangler has played all 1,406:02 in net and is 5-8-2 with a 1.73 goals against average and three shutouts. He has 61 saves for a 69.3 save percentage.

* THE SERIES: Oregon State leads the all-time series between the two schools, 9-6-1 ... In the Pac-12 era, the Beavers lead, 7-5-1 ... SDSU is coming off back-to-back wins against OSU for the first time since Oct. 30, 2005 and Sept. 29, 2006 ... San Diego State has never won three consecutive matches against Oregon State ... The Aztecs downed the Beavers, 3-1, on Oct. 7 in Corvallis, making it two straight wins in Corvallis after going 0-5-1 in their first six matches ... Nine of the 13 Pac-12 matches in the series have been decided by one goal.

A Glance at the Huskies
Washington is one of the hottest teams on the West Coast, winning each of its last five games by a combined score of 10-4. The Huskies are 10-3-2 overall and 5-2 in the Pac-12, as their five-game winning streak started with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over SDSU in Seattle. UW is 2-1-1 against nationally ranked schools heading into its Friday match at UCLA.

Washington is led by Brent Richards and his 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. A senior, Richards leads the Pac-12 in shots per game (5.00), and is second in points per game (1.53) and goals per game (0.67). Jacob Hustedt has three goals and five assists for 11 points, while Casey McCool has scored four times. Spencer Richey has played all 1,415:23 in net for the Huskies leads the conference with a 0.83 goals against average. He is 10-3-2 with seven shutouts, 51 saves and a 79.7 save percentage.

* THE SERIES: Washington leads the all-time series, 8-4-6 ... In San Diego State's Pac-12 era (since 2005), the Huskies have a slight edge (5-2-6) ... SDSU is 2-2-2 against UW in San Diego since 2005 ... A remarkable nine of the 13 meetings in the Pac-12 era have been settled in overtime of double-overtime ... Of the six ties since 2005, four have been 0-0 decisions ...
