Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown - Round 2 Results

The San Diego State women's golf team slipped from second into fourth place at 1-under 575, following the second round of the 54-hole Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Tuesday in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs, who combined for an 8-under 280 in the first round, shot a 7-over 295 on day two, as the average score jumped by more than a stroke and a half at the par-72, 6,329-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.

SDSU has three golfers in the individual top 30, including junior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), who is tied for 12th at 1-under 143. After an opening effort of 5-under 67, Wong was at 1-under par heading into the final four holes of the second round, but double bogeyed the 15th and the 16th holes and bogeyed the 17th to end the day with a 4-over 76.

Freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was one of two Aztecs to improve in the standings, jumping from 25th into a tie for 20th following her 1-over 73. Alston posted the team's second eagle of the tournament on the par-4 fifth hole, while also coming up with 14 pars for a two-day total of 1-over 145.

SDSU junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) was unable to duplicate her first-round effort, falling from sixth into a tie for 27th with a 5-over 77, including five bogeys and 13 pars. Senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenberg, Sweden) was at 2-under par through 14 holes, but like Wong ran into some trouble on holes 15- 17 with a double bogey and two bogeys for a 36-hole total of 2-over 146 to also tie for 27th place.

Aztec sophomore Tessa The (Los Altos, Calif.) had the team's low round of the day and also made its biggest gain on the individual leaderboard. She shaved five strokes off her first-round score with an even-par 72 to move up 21 spots into a tie for 44th with a 5-over 149.

San Diego State is just one stroke behind both UC Irvine and Pepperdine, who are tied for second at 2-under 574. UC Davis continues to lead the 16-team field with a 9-under 567, and Pepperdine's Grace Na came back to earth a bit with an even-par 72, following a first round 63, to own a slim one-stroke advantage over Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro.

The Aztecs' final 18 holes of their 2011 fall schedule will take place Wednesday beginning at 8:50 a.m. PT from the first hole. Live results are available on golfstat.com.
