Final Results

The San Diego State women's golf team fell just one stroke short of finishing in the top 10, as the Aztecs ended the 54-hole Stanford Intercollegiate with a 14-over 298 to place 12th on Sunday in Stanford, Calif. SDSU's 298 was its highest score of the tournament and gave it a three-day total of 23-over 875, which was only one stroke behind No. 9 Texas and No. 50 Stanford, who tied for 10th place with an 874 at the par-71, 6,148-yard Stanford Golf Course.

Only one San Diego State golfer moved up in the standings with junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) carding her tournament low 3-over 74 to jump six slots from 81st into 75th with a 17-over 230. Classmate Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) had the team's best 18 holes of the day with a 73, and finished as the Aztecs' top golfer in a tie for 25th place with a 2-over 215. Wong had nine pars and one bogey through the first 10 holes, but then double bogeyed the par-4 sixth hole. She did, however, make up one of those strokes with a birdie on her second to last hole.

Senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was the only other Aztec in the top 50, as she posted a final-round 76, highlighted by three birdies, to put her in a tie for 47th place at 6-over 219. After bogeying her first hole of the morning, freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) rebounded with nine pars in a row, before carding a double bogey on the second hole and bogeying the fourth hole. Alston ended the round with 15 pars in all for a 75 to bring her total to 7-over 220 and tie her for 53rd place.

After starting the tournament with a promising 1-over 72, SDSU sophomore Tessa The (Los Altos, Calif.) had her second consecutive round in the 80s to tie her for 79th with a 20-over 233. Junior Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who was competing as an individual, stayed in 86th place at 39-over 252, including a final-round 88.

Top-ranked and reigning national champions UCLA held onto the team lead the entire way, winning by three strokes over No. 10 Vanderbilt, despite logging its worst 18 holes of the tournament in the final round. Washington's SooBin Kim held off UCLA's Stephanie Kono for the individual title by two strokes with a 13-under 200.

San Diego State will conclude its fall schedule Oct. 24-26, when the team competes in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev.
