Stanford Intercollegiate Second Round Results
After producing a solid first round, the San Diego State women's golf team slipped slightly in the standings after posting a second-round 7-over 291 Saturday at the 54-hole Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif. The Aztecs, who logged a first-round 286 which was good for eighth place, are now in a tie for 10th along with No. 9 Texas at 9-over 577 at the par-71, 6,148-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Three of the team's starting five golfers improved or logged their same score from the first round. Aztec junior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) stayed at even par with her second consecutive 71. Wong had two birdies and two bogeys on both the front and the back nine and moved up two slots from 25th into a tie for 23rd with a 142.
Senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was tied for 13th entering the day, but fell all the way back to 31st at 1-over 143. Enarsson had an up and down first 12 holes with three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4 11th, before notching six consecutive pars to end the round with a 73.
Aztec freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) shaved one stroke off her day one score by going 2-under over her final eight holes to move from 43rd to 41st with a 3-over 145, including a second-round 72. SDSU sophomore Tessa The (Los Altos, Calif.) ran into some early trouble when she double bogeyed both the first and four holes and then had five other bogeys over her next eight holes, before ending with six straight pars. The's 9-over 80 dropped her from 34th into a tie for 72nd with a 152.
Junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) took five strokes off her first-round score, despite double bogeying the sixth hole and triple bogeying the ninth hole. Clark went 1-under through the final nine holes for a 75, giving her a 36-hole total of 156, which is good for 81st place.
Aztec junior Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy), who is competing individually, also improved from the first to the second round, taking four strokes off her score, but remains in 86th place in the 89-golf field with a 22-over 164.
Top-ranked and reigning national champions UCLA maintained its first-place positioning at 12-under 556. The Bruins and second place Vanderbilt, which is four strokes off the lead, tied for the low round of the day at 5-under 279. Two golfers, Oregon's Cassy Isagawa and Washington's SooBin Kim, are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under 134.
The Stanford Intercollegiate concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes, beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT. SDSU will be joined by San Jose State and Virginia starting at the 10th tee. Live results are available on golfstat.com.
