NEW YORK -
SOCCER AMERICA TEAM OF THE WEEK
San Diego State goalkeeper Blake Hylen (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week, the website announced today. Hylen is the second Aztec to garner Soccer America Team of the Week honors this season, joining junior Jose Altamirano's (San Diego/Southwest HS) Sept. 14 selection.
Over the weekend, Hylen went 2-0 with a 0.50 goals against average to help SDSU extend its unbeaten streak to seven games and improve to 2-0 in Pac-12 play for the first time since starting 3-0 in 2007. The redshirt sophomore had a combined nine saves and a .900 save percentage over the 180 minutes.
On Friday, Hylen made a career-high seven saves, including a breakaway stop and two others over the final 3:22 as San Diego State downed Stanford, 1-0. It was his second straight shutout and third of the season.
On Sunday, Hylen had two stops in the Aztecs' 2-1 victory over California. He gave up a goal at the 68:46 mark, his first allowed in 356:24.
SDSU, which is ranked in all five national polls for the third time since it joined the Pac-12 in 2005, including a high of No. 18 by Soccer America, travels to the Pacific Northwest for games at Oregon State (7 p.m. PT Friday) and Washington (2:30 p.m. PT Sunday) this weekend.
