2011 SDSU Fall Classic I Brackets
The San Diego State women's tennis team continued its season-opening tournament, the SDSU Fall Classic I, on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center under sunny and clear skies.
SDSU's doubles teams continued to shine in the early going as both nationally ranked duos pocketed victories. No. 47 Alicia Aguilar and Julia Wais defeated their Houston counterparts, Giorgia Pozzan and Bryony Huner, 8-6, while No. 59 Sierra Ellison and Roxanne Elllison won by the same score in their match with Duke's Annie Mulholland and Monica Turewicz.
In other doubles action, Emma Cioffi and Kristin Buth won their match, 8-4, over Utah's Lucia Kovarcikova and Sammie Watson.
In singles, Cioffi, Buth and Sierra Ellison all won their second match of the day. Cioffi defeated Denis Van Der Ben of New Mexico State, 6-3, 6-2, and Buth followed suit by also winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Houston's Liselot Koenen. Sierra Ellison, meanwhile, was extended to three sets, but ultimately downed USD's Cara Brown, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
Laura Antonana-Iriarte was the fourth Aztec to win in singles as she excused Utah's Watson, 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.
Third and final day action at the SDSU Fall Classic I is set to start at 9 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center. Admission is free.
