2011 Dick McGuire Final Results

The San Diego State women's golf team posted a final-round 303 on Monday to come in fifth place at the season-opening 32nd annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs carded a two-day, 54-hole total of 19-over 895 in head coach Leslie Spalding's debut tournament at the par-73, 6,187-yard UNM Championship Golf Course.

SDSU had three golfers finish in the individual top-20 to help propel the team to its best finish at the Dick McGuire Invite since 2002. A year ago, the Aztecs were seventh out of 17 schools with a 54-hole total of 24-over 900.

San Diego State junior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) was unable to duplicate her day-one effort, falling from second into a tie for seventh place with a 1-over 220. Clark was at 2-over par Monday before posting five bogeys over her next six holes. She then rallied to end the round with four pars and a birdie for a 6-over 79. The seventh-place performance was Clark's second top-10 finish of her career at a 54-hole tournament, while her 220 matched her career low also set a year ago at the Mountain West Conference championships.

Aztec senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and junior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) both made sizeable jumps up the individual leaderboard after the final round. Enarsson moved from 19th into a tie for 14th place with a 1-over 74, including 13 pars, three bogeys and two birdies for a two-day total of 4-over 223. Wong, meanwhile, utilized her second consecutive 74, highlighted by five birdies, to go from 24th into a tie for 17th place with a 5-over 224.

Playing in her first collegiate event, freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was the third SDSU player to improve in the standings, going from 63rd to 54th place with a 3-over 76. Junior Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) rounded out the Aztec starting five in 86th place at 21-over 240, including a final-round 80.

Baylor, which entered the final 18 holes tied for fourth place with the Aztecs, vaulted all the way into the top spot with a 295 for a four-stroke victory over both TCU and Denver with an 11-over 887. New Mexico's Sofia Hoglund, who was competing individually, held onto her day one lead with a 77 to win by one stroke with a 3-under 216. Baylor's Hayley Davis (2-under) and Hoglund's teammate Sammi Stevens (1-under) were the only other golfers to finish the event under par.

SDSU will resume its short fall schedule Oct. 7-9 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
