Sophomore Miles Byass (Highland, Calif.) blasted a free kick into the back of the net in the 95th minute to lead the San Diego State men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Oral Roberts Friday night in rainy Tulsa, Okla. The Aztecs (4-1-1) have now won three consecutive games by a combined margin of 8-1.

Byass' game winner came after an SDSU player was taken down just outside the 18-yard box. He bent it around the wall and past the Golden Eagle goalkeeper Nick Potolick for his third goal of the year and eighth over his last 11 matches (dating back to last season).

Senior co-captain Daniel Steres (Calabasas, Calif.) gave San Diego State the early lead when he headed in a Byass corner kick at the 32:01 mark. It was Steres' first goal of the year and ninth of his career.

The Aztecs continued to dominate the first half of play as they outshot ORU, 13-1, and had both corner kicks of the first 45. Over the team's three-game winning streak, SDSU has outshot its opponents, 25-3, in the first half, yielding just one attempt in each match. On the season, San Diego State is outshooting the opposition, 56-12, in the opening 45.

Oral Roberts, however, did tie the game in the 83rd minute as Griffith Poindexter headed in Sid Stewart's corner kick.

Byass responded and came through for the Aztecs at the 94:43 mark after junior Jose Altamirano (San Diego/Southwest HS), Byass and junior Ata Ozbay (Barrington, Ill.) all had quality attempts in the first overtime.

The win was SDSU's 13th consecutive when leading at the half. Additionally, San Diego State is now 19-0-8 over its last 27 matches when scoring at least two goals.

The Aztecs outshot the Golden Eagles, 20-13, and owned a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Byass had eight attempts to pace the SDSU offense, including four on net, while redshirt sophomore John Pegg (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman Tyler Smith (Huntington Beach, Calif.) contributed three shots apiece.

San Diego State redshirt sophomore Blake Hylen (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) played all 94:43 and had a career-high five saves.

The Aztecs continue their trip in the Central Time Zone when they take on Houston Baptist Sunday at 7 p.m. CT.
