NEW YORK - San Diego State junior Jose Altamirano (San Diego/Southwest HS) has been named to the Soccer America Team of the Week, the website announced today.
It is the third weekly honor for Altamirano, who was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday and was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Altamirano scored three goals over the weekend to lead the Aztecs to a 2-0 record en route to winning the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament title. For his efforts, the midfielder was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player.
On Friday, Altamirano scored a goal in SDSU's 4-0 victory over Manhattan. He had two shots in just 35 minutes of action. On Sunday, Altamirano scored both goals and hit a post with another shot in San Diego State's 2-0 triumph over No. 21 Penn. For the game, Altamirano had four attempts in 74 minutes.
Altamirano, a member of three United States National team age groups, most recently with the U-20 squad in March of 2009, now has three goals this year after recording two over his first two seasons. Altamirano's seven points (three goals, one assist) is tied with Byass (two goals, three assists) for the team lead.
The Aztecs travel to play Oral Roberts (6 p.m. CT Friday) and Houston Baptist (7 p.m. CT Sunday) this weekend.
