SAN DIEGO - San Diego State football players Jerome Long and Brian Stahovich have been named Mountain West Players of the Week for their performances in this past weekend's victory at Army, the conference office announced Monday. Long received the accolade for the first time in his career, while this is the third occasion that Stahovich has been honored.

Long recorded the first double-digit tackle game of his career, finishing with 10 stops, including a career-best seven solo efforts, to lead SDSU to a 2-0 start to the 2011 season. The senior defensive lineman also added a sack, which came on a critical third-down play that put the Black Knights out of field-goal range on their final drive of the contest. Army then failed to convert on fourth down to seal the 23-20 win for the Aztecs. Long currently ranks first in the Mountain West among defensive lineman with 7.5 tackles per outing.

Stahovich also was instrumental in SDSU's win against Army, as he dropped four of his five punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded a pair of kicks exceeding 50 yards. The senior punter had a season-long punt of 59 yards in the first half, which is the second longest in the Mountain West this year. Of his four punts inside the 20-yard line, three of them were inside the 12-yard line and three were not returned, helping the Aztecs limit the Black Knights to an average field position at their own 21-yard line. With his effort on Saturday, the Solana Beach, Calif., native moved from 38th to 15th nationally in punting and from third to first in the conference with a 44.8 average.

The Aztecs return home this coming Saturday, for the annual KGB SkyShow and a tilt against Washington State at 3:30 p.m. PT. The contest with the Cougars will be carried live on The Mtn., Channel 4 San Diego and AM 600 KOGO. For information on tickets to this game, call the Aztec ticket office at (619) 283-7378, or visit the Aztec ticket office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window E.
