WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - San Diego State sophomore Miles Byass has been named the Pac-12 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. It is the first weekly award for the Highland, Calif., native.

A 2010 honorable mention all-conference pick, Byass came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute and assisted on the game-tying goal in the 38th to help the Aztecs defeat Canisius, 2-1, on Sunday. It was SDSU's first season-opening victory since 2006. San Diego State ended up making its second consecutive NCAA tournament that year, finishing with a 9-6-4 record.

Byass also ringed a shot attempt off the crossbar in the 36th minute. For the match, Byass had three shots in just 44 minutes of action.

Dating back to last season, Byass has scored six goals over his last six matches.

The Aztecs begin their annual Alumni, Friends and Family Weekend on Friday with a home match against Long Island (1:30 p.m. PT). The Alumni Game will take place on Saturday (Sept. 3), followed by the Battle of San Diego between SDSU and USD on Sunday (Sept. 4) at 8 p.m. at Torero Stadium.
