COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State volleyball player Andrea Hannasch has been honored as a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete for the second straight season. The middle blocker from New Braunfels, Texas (New Braunfels HS) was also named to the 2010 Mountain West All-Academic team along with four of her teammates at the conclusion of last fall's campaign.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
Hannasch, who will be a junior at San Diego State this fall, is a mathematics major with a 3.80 cumulative gpa.
To be eligible for selection to the MW All-Academic squad, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
In addition to Hannasch, fellow Aztecs including libero Kristi Jackels, outside hitters Kelsey Manasco and Paije Pearson along with right side hitter Jessica Peacock.
The Aztecs will open their 2011 season by hosting the annual Aztec Invitational the weekend of Aug. 26-27 with their opening match against UC Irvine on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
