NEW ORLEANS - Former San Diego State standout running back Marshall Faulk will be inducted into the Allstate Sugar Bowl's Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of the Fame, the organization announced today.

Faulk, along with fellow inductees Javonne Brooks (University of New Orleans volleyball player) and Jim McCafferty (Loyola coach and administrator), will be officially inducted at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame banquet on Saturday, July 23, at the Louisiana Superdome. Faulk's high school coach, Wayne Reese, will receive the Eddie Robinson Award that day as well.

Faulk was a three-time All-American (1991-93) at San Diego State and a two-time unanimous consensus All-America choice in 1992-93. As a freshman and sophomore, Faulk led the nation in rushing and became just the fifth player at the time to claim back-to-back rushing titles. San Diego State's all-time career leading rusher went on to become the No. 2 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft before earning seven trips to the Pro Bowl, being named the 2000 NFL most valuable player and winning Super Bowl XXXIV with the St. Louis Rams. This past February, Faulk was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame was created in 1971 and has honored 203 athletes who were born in New Orleans and achieved prominence in or away from the Greater New Orleans area; or, those non-natives who achieved sports prominence in the Greater New Orleans area in high school, college, professional or amateur sports. Each year's Hall of Fame class is selected by the Greater New Orleans Sports Awards Selection Committee, a volunteer group which has met monthly to pay homage to outstanding achievements in athletics in the Greater New Orleans area for over five decades. In addition to the Hall of Fame, the committee recognizes an Amateur Athlete of the Month for the Greater New Orleans area and selects yearly winners for a variety of major awards.
