SAN DIEGO - San Diego State pitcher Cole Swanson and outfielder Cody Smith have been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America squad by Collegiate Baseball magazine.

Swanson (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS), a second-team all-Mountain West Conference selection, posted a 4-2 record with a 3.23 earned run average over 15 appearances including nine starts. He fanned 61 batters with 32 walks in 78 innings. Swanson's ERA ranked eighth in the MWC while his opponent batting average of .218 was fourth-best in the conference.

Smith (San Diego, Calif./Santana HS), who also earned second-team all-MWC accolades this past season, batted .320 with 11 doubles, four triples two home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored. He was successful on 15 of 16 stolen base attempts while leading the Aztecs in that category.

Swanson and Smith are the first Aztecs to earn the honor from Collegiate Baseball since Brock Ungricht in 2007. SDSU's most recent freshman All-Americans have included Brandon Meredith (3rd team by Ping! Baseball in 2009, Addison Reed (honorable mention by Ping! Baseball in 2008) and Stephen Strasburg (1st team by Baseball America in 2007).
