SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf team added a new player to its roster Tuesday with Tessa The transferring from the University of Colorado. The (pronounced tay (rhymes with hay)) played one season in Boulder and will be eligible to compete as a sophomore for the Aztecs starting with the 2011-12 campaign.

"I wanted to move back to California and be closer to my family, so that they could have more opportunities to come and watch me compete," The said. "I also loved the campus and the city of San Diego, so coming to SDSU just seemed to be the right fit for me."

This past year, The played in six tournaments and 17 rounds for the Buffaloes, posting a stroke average of 79.35, including a 77.56 mark in the fall season. Her best finish came at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational last October, where she carded rounds of 79-75-77 to tie for 14th place, the school's third-best individual performance in the tournament's 13-year history. The also was her squad's top finisher at the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, coming in 32nd place at 12-over 228, highlighted by an even-par 72 in the first 18 holes.

Before moving to CU, the Los Altos, Calif., native was an accomplished junior player, qualifying for the U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship in 2009 and in 2007, when she advanced to the round of 16. She also competed in the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur in Eugene, Ore., and won two AJGA tournaments, the 2008 Trader Joe's Junior Championship and the 2007 Junior All-Star at Petersburg.

The prepped at Los Altos High School where she lettered four times as a member of the boys' golf squad. She was a three-time team captain and MVP and finished ninth in the girls state championship in 2007 to garner the San Jose Mercury News Sophomore Athlete-of-the-Year award. The placed second in the girls' golf league tournament as a senior and also earned a pair of letters in volleyball during her career with the Eagles.

San Diego State logged its second consecutive NCAA regional appearance last month and is slated to return four of its top five golfers from this past season's squad.
