Final NCAA West Regional Results in PDF Format
The San Diego State women's golf team finished out its 2010-11 campaign with a 17th-place finish Saturday at the NCAA West Regional in Auburn, Wash. The Aztecs logged a 317 in the final round, which included a 45-minute rain delay, to complete the three-day, 54-hole event with a 74-over 938 at the par-72, 6,266-yard Washington National Golf Club.
SDSU junior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was at even-par through the first 13 holes with four birdies, but then carded double bogeys on both the fifth and sixth holes before rounding out the evening with three consecutive pars for a 4-over 76. The 76 matched as the team's low round of the tournament and moved her from 45th into 41st in the final standings with a 229.
Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) completed her Aztec career with a 58th-place showing, notching a 17-over 233, including a final-round 79. San Diego State's remaining three golfers each posted scores in the 80s, as Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) fired an 82 to tie for 84th, sophomore Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) logged an 80 to tie for 93rd and classmate Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) was never able to get on track with an 84 to tie for 106th.
The top five spots on the team leaderboard remained the same with USC earning a 10-stroke victory with a 2-over 866, despite logging their highest round of the tournament with a 294. Tennessee's Erica Popson led after each of the three days, cruising to the individual title by five strokes with an 8-under 208, highlighted by three sub-par rounds.
The other teams besides USC to advance out of the west regional to the NCAA national championships in Bryan, Texas, included Tennessee, Virginia, UC Davis, Arizona, South Carolina, Washington and Texas A&M, while individuals Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia, the nation's No. 3 golfer, and Amy Anderson of North Dakota State will also make the trip.
