SAN DIEGO - San Diego State volleyball player Summer Nash has been invited to join the preliminary training team for the Junior (U-21) National Beach team. Practices will start tomorrow, June 1st, and be held each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier.
Nash earned the invite after a strong performance at the USAV Beach High Performance Tryouts earlier this month. The tryouts were held following the last day of competition at the CBS Sports Alt Games Collegiate Beach Championship, which Nash also participated in.
Practices for the preliminary training team will be held until July 5, when the field will be narrowed to approximately eight athletes. Those who make the final cut then play in the USAV High Performance Championships, July 15-17, at Hermosa Beach.
An outside hitter, Nash, is coming off a successful freshman campaign for the Aztecs. She played in 24 of 32 matches, notching 159 kills with a 2.74 kills per set average. Between Oct. 21 and Nov. 4 of last year, Nash had a string of six straight double figures kill matches. She also hit better than .300 in 11 matches during the course of the year.
