The San Diego State track and field team travels to Eugene, Ore., and historic Hayward Field this weekend to compete in the NCAA Preliminary Rounds. The top 12 finishers in each event of the west region advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Eight Aztecs qualified for the three-day meet, which begins Thursday (May 26), including Lawreta Ozoh, Whitney Ashley and Allison Reaser in two events apiece.
Ozoh heads into the weekend ranked 14th of the 48 competitors (same in each event) in the 100-meter dash (11.42 seconds) and 16th in the 200 (23.36).
Ashley, meanwhile, is 17th in the shot put (51 feet, 11 ¼ inches) and 21st in the discus throw (171-05).
Reaser, who won the heptathlon at the MWC Championships earlier this month and has already clinched a spot in the NCAA meet in the event, is seeded 21st in the 400-meter hurdles (59.46) and 35th in the long jump (19-09.75).
Kelsy Hintz is tied for 14th in the pole vault (13-07.25), while Shanieka Thomas (42-04.00) and Alex Evans (41-06.00) are 16th and 29th, respectively, in the triple jump. Jeanette McConnell (36th in the discus, 162-06) and Josefine Koskinen (46th in the 800, 2:09.25) round out SDSU's competitors this weekend.
The shot put kicks things off for San Diego State on Thursday, beginning at 1:45 p.m. PT.
