COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Four San Diego State athletes have been named to the 2011 all-Mountain West Conference baseball team selected by a vote of the league's seven coaches. Juniors Brandon Meredith and Chris Wilson along with freshmen Cole Swanson and Cody Smith all received second-team honors.

Wilson (Cathedral Catholic HS, San Diego), who earned his award as an outfielder, hit .315 in conference play with 10 doubles, four home runs, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored in 24 contests. Three of his homers came in a contest against Air Force and tied the school single-game record. Overall he is batting .255 while leading the team in doubles (16) and home runs (5). His 32 RBI ranks second on the squad as well.

Meredith (Montgomery HS, San Diego) was named the second-team all-conference DH/Utility player after splitting time as a starter in the outfield and as the designated hitter for the Aztecs. In league play he finished with a .278 average along with five doubles, two homers, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored. He enters the week with a .284 overall batting average and leads the Aztecs with 44 runs, 38 RBI, four triples and five home runs. Meredith previously eanred second-team honors as a freshman (2009) and first-team accolades as a sophomore (2010).

Freshman left-hander Cole Swanson (Torrey Pines HS, San Diego) turned in a stellar season in his first year at SDSU with a conference mark of 3-1 along with a 3.27 earned run average. His ERA in league games ranked eighth in the conference while his .233 opponent batting average was fifth. He was also seventh in strikeouts with 33. Swanson has posted an overall record of 4-1 this season with a 3.12 earned run average.

Cody Smith (Santana HS, Santee, Calif.), a freshman outfielder, earned second-team honors after hitting .302 with six doubles, a pair of triples, 14 RBI and 14 runs scored in league play. He did not commit an error in 24 MWC contests and currently sports a .299 overall average with 11 doubles, four triples and 28 RBI. He has also been successful on 14 of 15 stolen base attempts.

San Diego State opens play in the 2011 Mountain West Conference tournament on Tuesday, May 24, with a contest against UNLV scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
