COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - San Diego State's Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, the league announced Tuesday. Miles also garnered all-MWC honors and was joined on the all-conference team by senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) and junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.).
Miles became the fifth Aztec to win the league's freshman of the year and the first since Micetich in 2009. Miles led SDSU in conference play with a .512 (21-for-41) average, .805 slugging percentage and .556 on-base percentage, to go along with 10 runs, four doubles, two home runs and a triple in 13 MWC games (three teams played 14 or 15). In Mountain West games only, the center fielder was second in the league on-base percentage and triples (tied), and third in hits, batting average, slugging percentage, doubles (tied), sacrifice bunts (tied, 3) and total bases (tied, 33).
Overall, Miles is hitting a team-high .352 (51-for-145) with a .524 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage. She has 31 runs, 26 RBIs, 21 walks, 10 doubles, three home runs, three triples and a team-best nine stolen bases.
Camello, meanwhile, made her first all-conference team after hitting .455 (20-for-44) in MWC play with 11 runs, six RBIs and six walks. The right fielder ranked among the league's best in seven categories, including in the top five in hits (T-4th), batting average (T-4th), on-base percentage (.520, 5th) and sacrifice bunts (2, T-5th).
On the season overall, Camello is batting .340 (51-for-150) with a team-leading 36 runs. She has added 18 RBIs, 13 walks, six doubles and six stolen bases.
Micetich rounds out the San Diego State honorees after going 7-4 with a 1.94 ERA in league action. The right-hander struck out 51 against 13 walks and limited the opposition to a .214 batting average (tops in the MWC). Micetich, who picked up her second all-MWC selection (2009), also ranked second in ERA and wins, tied for second in appearances (13) and strikeouts, and third in innings pitched (57.2).
Overall, Micetich is 19-11 and leads the league with a 1.86 ERA. She has 161 strikeouts with 34 walks and 14 complete games, while keeping the opposition to a .240 batting average over 165 1/3 innings.
