SAN DIEGO - San Diego State athletic director Jim Sterk announced Tuesday that Emilee Klein has resigned as head coach of the Aztec women's golf program.

"Emilee came in and lifted our program to another level by going to the NCAA tournament two years in a row," Sterk said. "We are thankful for her great work at SDSU and wish her the best in her new career. We plan to start a national search for our next head coach immediately."

Klein recently completed her second season at San Diego State, directing the program to consecutive NCAA regional appearances for the first time in school history. She led the Aztecs to three tournament titles over the two campaigns and had a pair of student-athletes garner all-league honors, including two-time selection and 2010 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Christine Wong.

"I want to thank San Diego State for this opportunity, because I have loved my time here," Klein said. "It's a bittersweet moment for me, but I'm excited to follow in my dad's footsteps into the insurance industry. I wish only great things for the golf program and will continue to support San Diego State through and through."

Klein came to The Mesa in July of 2009, after serving as head women's golf coach at the University of Central Florida for four years. She competed on the LPGA Tour for 11 seasons (1995-2005), winning three tournaments, including the 1996 Weetabix Women's British Open, the 1996 Ping Welch's Championship and the 2001 Michelob Light Classic.
