Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) capped a four-run sixth inning with a two-run homer to give the San Diego State softball team a 6-3 victory over New Mexico Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 31-19 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain West Conference with the win, while the Lobos dropped to 19-25 and 5-9.

SDSU's big sixth inning began when freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) (walk) and senior Jessica Camello (infield single) each got into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.). Freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) then took a 2-0 pitch up the middle to put San Diego State back up by a run. After redshirt freshman Devin Gray (Durham, Calif.) replaced Klopp at second base, Maeva drilled a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall for the final two runs of the game. It was Maeva's fifth home run of the season (T-6th on Aztec single-season list) and ninth at SDSU (T-10th).

The four-run inning came after UNM scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead on a wild pitch, a triple by Chelsea Anaya and an infield single by Cassandra Kalapsa.

San Diego State struck first with a run in the fourth on Miles' third home run of the season. Redshirt sophomore Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) scored the Aztecs' other run in the fifth on a single through the left side by sophomore Kristin May (Corona, Calif.).

Miles was 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and a walk to pace the SDSU offense, while Maeva reached twice with her two-run homer and a walk.

San Diego State received a solid outing by senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS). The right-hander struck out 10 over 5 1/3 innings, while allowing three runs on five hits and a walk. It was her 24th career double-digit strikeout game and second of the season. Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) improved to 18-11 after giving up one hit and striking out one over 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The Aztecs and Lobos play again tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT. Following the game, there will be a special ceremony honoring the team's seven seniors - Brooke Petty (San Diego/Vista HS), Taylor Sutton (Gilroy, Calif.), Eva Sahatdjian (Fresno, Calif.), Camello, Beasley, Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) and Wisneski.
