SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's tennis junior Sierra Ellison has earned the Southwest Region's ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today.
The annual award goes to a women's player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis.
Ellison is the fourth Aztec to earn the regional award following the likes of Katja Karrento in 2003, Indra Erichsen in 2005 and Esther Cadua in 2008.
The Coto de Caza, Calif., native is now eligible to win the national award, which will be announced on May 24.
This past season, Ellison and her sister, Roxanne Ellison, were ranked as high as No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings and finished with a 22-8 record (12-7 dual) en route to all-Mountain West Conference doubles accolades for a second straight year. In singles, Ellison was 21-11, including a 15-8 mark in the dual-match season.
