SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf squad has been tabbed the Golfweek.com national Team of the Week for posting a two-stroke victory en route to the Mountain West Conference Championship title, May 5-7, in Tucson, Ariz.
The Aztecs had three golfers finish in the top seven and four in the top 17, as they outlasted second-place TCU by two strokes with a 54-hole score of 5-under 847 at the par-71, 7,144-yard OMNI Tucson National Golf Course.
The victory was SDSU's first-ever at a Mountain West Conference championship, after placing second five times, including each of the previous two campaigns. The tournament win was the seventh-ranked Aztecs' sixth of the season, which is second-most nationally in 2010-11.
SDSU also picked up the same honor from the website earlier this season after upsetting No. 1 ranked UCLA at the USC Intercollegiate, Feb. 28-March 1.
The Aztecs will learn their fate this afternoon as to which of the six NCAA regional sites that they will play at, May 19-21. Teams will be competing for a chance to go to the national championships, which will take place May 31-June 5 at Karsten Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
