Aztec Softball Heads to Las Vegas For A Pair of Games Against UNLV
The San Diego State softball team heads to Las Vegas for a pair of games at UNLV this weekend. The Aztecs (29-17, 5-3 MWC) and Rebels (22-18, 4-5 MWC) play at 1 p.m. PT Saturday and again at 12:30 p.m. PT Sunday in a game that will be broadcast live by CBS Sports Network.
Last weekend, SDSU had two of its three games canceled due to inclement weather, including a game against Utah where San Diego State was up, 7-0, in the bottom of the third inning. The weather forecast this weekend for Las Vegas looks to be a bit better than Salt Lake City with 93 degrees slated for Saturday and 86 for Sunday.
Eleven of San Diego State's 17 losses this season have come against nationally ranked teams, including seven against top-10 schools and 2010 Women's College World Series foes. So far the season, 19 of the Aztecs' opponents made last year's NCAA tournament.
Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) leads the SDSU offense with a .344 average to go along with four home runs and 29 RBIs. Senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) is batting .341 with six homers and 26 RBIs, while senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (.336, 33 R) and freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) (.323, 25 R) are also above the .300 mark. San Diego State is hitting .286 as a team with a program-record 31 home runs, including a school-record 14 by freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS).
Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) is 16-10 this season and leads the Mountain West Conference with a 1.58 ERA. Senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), meanwhile, is 9-6 with a 3.46 ERA and three saves.
San Diego State is 48-34 all-time against UNLV after downing the Rebels, 4-0, on April 23 for its 11th consecutive win in the series.
