NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Freshman Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) had a combined two home runs and seven RBIs to lead the San Diego State softball team to a sweep Tuesday at Cal State Northridge. The Aztecs (24-14), who have won 10 consecutive games, 14 of their last 15 and 16 of their last 19, defeated the Matadors (13-22), 4-1, in the first game and 13-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

Klopp hit a two-out grand slam in the top of the seventh inning in the opener and added a three-run homer in the second inning of the second game. With all of Mountain West Conference games still to play, Klopp has 11 home runs on the season, four more than the previous school single-season record of seven set by Erryn Gutjahr in 1999. The 11 career homers are already tied for fifth in program history.

Senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.), meanwhile, was a combined 4-for-6 with a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. She is hitting .567 (17-for-30) with nine runs, three homers and 10 RBIs over a career-long 10-game hitting streak (all SDSU wins).

In the opener, CSUN took an early lead in the bottom of the first when Jaci Carlsen homered over the left field fence.

San Diego State, which is receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, struggled against Cal State Northridge starting pitcher Carly Wade until the seventh inning. In the decisive frame, the Aztecs loaded the bases when junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) singled and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Devin Gray (Durham, Calif.), Wisneski hit a one-out single and junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) drew a two-out walk. Klopp then took the second pitch she saw over the right-center field wall for eventual game-winning hit. It was SDSU's second straight game with a grand slam after going more than three years without one.

Junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) tossed a perfect seventh to seal the win for San Diego State. Micetich (12-7) allowed one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out three for her seventh consecutive victory.

The nightcap wasn't as close as the Aztecs struck for four runs in the second, six in the third and three more in the fourth en route to a 13-0, run-rule win.

Wisneski homered, scored three runs and drove in four to pace the offense, while Klopp had the first-inning three-run home run. Sophomore Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) had a two-run double and scored a run, while Rose, freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) and freshman Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) singled and scored two runs apiece.

One run was plenty for senior All-American pitcher Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), who tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout. Beasley (9-6) gave up a third-inning walk and a leadoff single to Carlsen in the fourth to account for the Matadors' only baserunners. She struck out two over the five innings.

SDSU begins MWC play Friday at New Mexico, beginning at 6 p.m. MT.
