Junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) capped a seven-run third inning with a grand slam to lift the San Diego State softball team to a 7-1 victory over San Diego Sunday at USD Softball Complex. The Aztecs (22-14), who are receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball national poll, have won eight consecutive games, 12 of their last 13 and 14 of their last 17.

SDSU broke open a scoreless tie with seven runs in the top of the third on seven hits and two Torero (10-13) errors. San Diego State's first three runs came when senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch, freshman Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) scored on a single by junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) and senior Taylor Sutton (Gilroy, Calif.) scored on a single by senior Eva Sahatdjian (Fresno, Calif.). Rose then drilled a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for the Aztecs' first grand slam since March 18, 2008, when current senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) cleared the bases against the same USD team.

San Diego responded with a run of its own in the bottom half when Megan Walsh's sacrifice fly scored Dana Prelsnik.

That would be all the scoring for the game as SDSU improved to 50-3 all-time against San Diego.

Camello, redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) and senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) had two hits apiece for San Diego State, which outhit the Toreros, 11-3.

Beasley (8-6) got the win after allowing one run on three hits and a walk over seven innings. The right-hander struck out seven.

The Aztecs continue their six-game road trip Tuesday with a doubleheader at Cal State Northridge, beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
