USAFA, Colo. - The San Diego State men's tennis team earned its first Mountain West Conference victory of 2011 on Sunday, defeating Air Force on the road, 6-1. With the win, SDSU advances to 3-13 on the season and 1-2 in MWC play.

In doubles play, the Aztecs received an early setback when the No. 1 pairing of senior Giovanni Vaglietti and freshman Hunter Nicholas fell to the Falcons duo of Taylor Soster and Lucas Marin-Salcedo. After junior Javier Pulgar and senior Tim Schulz van Endert secured the No. 2 position match, 8-5, Air Force took the point-clinching No. 3 match when Andy Jackson and Alex Grubbs barely outlasted senior Andre Feliz and freshman Shiva Sangwan, 9-8.

That would be the last time the Aztecs trailed on Sunday afternoon, as consecutive wins by Nicholas and Pulgar would give SDSU the lead for good. After Feliz took care of Grubbs at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 1-6, 6-0, freshman Juan Florez clinched the event at the No. 6 spot by defeating Air Force's Steven Young in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6.

With SDSU's four-game road trip now complete, the Aztecs will now return home to prepare for a MWC match with Utah on Thursday, March 7, at the Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. PT.
