April 29, 2011

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Nearly seven hours after the scheduled start time, San Diego State's men's tennis season came to end as the fifth-seeded Aztecs fell to top-seeded Brigham Young, 4-1, in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The match, which was scheduled to begin at noon PT was delayed due to high winds and moved shortly after it started from the Colorado State campus to Miramont Lifestyle Fitness Center in Fort Collins.

Brigham Young claimed the tightly-contested doubles point, with Thomas Shubert and Georgy Batrakov outlasting Tim Schulz van Endert and Javier Pulgar, 9-8, at number one.

The Cougars pushed the advantage to 3-0 with straight-set victories at number two and four singles.

San Diego State got on the board with a victory at number one singles. Giovanni Vaglietti defeated Evan Urbina, 6-2, 7-6, to pull within 3-1.

The Cougars clinched the victory when Spencer Smith rallied from a one-set deficit at number three singles to defeat Andre Feliz, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
