AZTEC STORY LINES
No. 9 San Diego State enters the MPSF Tournament as the No. 7 seed following a 20-12 regular-season campaign that concluded Friday with a 15-7 Harper Cup victory over UC San Diego. The Aztecs will face second-seeded No.2 California in Friday's quarterfinal round.

On April 9, SDSU went to Cal and came out on the short end of a 15-12 decision that featured goals from eight different Aztecs and multiple lead changes. Breda Vosters led the way for Cal with a six-goal outburst, while junior Meaghan Poland led all SDSU scorers with three goals.

MPSF TOURNAMENT SERIES HISTORY
The Aztecs are 3-5 all-time against Cal in the MPSF Tournament. The last time the two teams met in the postseason was in 2008, when SDSU came out on top in a thrilling overtime game, 12-11, to clinch a fifth-place finish. The quality of the games between the two squads has been phenomenal, as five of the eight games have been won by two goals or less, and seven of the eight by three scores or less. The largest margin of victory in the two team's postseason series history came back in 1996, when SDSU won 10-6.

ABOUT THE MPSF TOURNAMENT
The MPSF Tournament is being held this year in San Jose, Calif. The Aztecs are 35-27 all-time in the the 15-year history of the event and finished in sixth place at last year's tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. In 2000, the last time the championships were hosted by San Jose State, the Aztecs went 3-2 en route to a fifth-place finish. SDSU's best finish at the tournament was back in 1996, when head coach Deena Schmidt took the Aztecs to the championship game in the event's inaugural year. SDSU has not finished better than fifth at the tournament over the course of the last 12 years. All-time, SDSU has finished second at the MPSF Tournament once, third and fourth on one occasion each, fifth four times, sixth three times and seventh five times.

IF THIS, THEN THAT
If the Aztecs are victorious on Friday, they will face the winner of the Hawai'i and San Jose State game at 3 p.m. PT on Saturday. If Cal prevails, SDSU will enter the consolation bracket and play the loser of the Hawai'i-San Jose State matchup at 11:30 a.m. PT, also on Saturday.

If the Aztecs advance through Friday's quarterfinals and Saturday's semifinals, they will play in the MPSF Championship Game at 3:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 1.

SHE BROKE IT, BUT IT DOESN'T NEED FIXING
Senior Sarah Brady's two assists against UC San Diego last Friday gave her 63 on the season, a new SDSU single-season record. The senior also passed Anna Prestegards for fifth all-time in SDSU history. Meanwhile, senior Ronni Gautschi's two ejections drawn in the contest gave her 180 in her career, moving her past Larisa Baltgalvis into fourth all-time in the SDSU record book.
