The San Diego State softball team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held off a seventh inning rally to down San Diego, 5-2, Saturday at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (21-14), who are now 49-3 all-time against the Toreros (10-12), have won seven consecutive games, 11 of their last 12 and 13 of their last 16.

SDSU put runs on the scoreboard in each of the first four innings, including two in the fourth, for the 5-0 lead. Junior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS), who on Tuesday was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, continued her hot hitting with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the first. It was her fourth of the season, which already ties her for 10th in the school's single-season list.

In the second, junior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) came through on an eight-pitch at-bat with a single through the right side that scored freshman Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.).

San Diego State added another run in the third on a double-steal. Senior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.), who led off the inning with a single, raced home from third after USD catcher Taylor Hensley threw toward second base to try and get Aztec freshman Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.). Miles was safe and Camello slid behind the tag to put SDSU up, 3-0, after three frames.

In the fourth, senior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) ripped a one-out double to left-center field to score pinch-runner Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS). Wisneski scored from second later in the inning after a late throw failed to get redshirt senior Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) at first and went wide past the covering second baseman.

After reaching base safely only four times over the first six innings, San Diego had three singles, a walk and took advantage of two passed balls for a pair of runs in the seventh. Aztec senior All-American Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS), who relieved junior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) in the seventh, settled down and induced two groundouts to end the game in favor of SDSU by a 5-2 score.

Micetich (11-7) got the win after striking out nine (season high) over six scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just two singles and two walks to lower her ERA to 1.88. Beasley gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in an inning of relief.

Marquez, Miles and Wisneski each had two hits and stole a base for San Diego State, which outhit the Toreros, 10-5. Rose reached on all three of her plate appearances on a single and two walks, while Camello reached twice (single, walk) and had a stolen base.

SDSU and San Diego meet at 1 p.m. PT Sunday at USD Softball Complex.
